No matter how young or old you are, if you have breathe, you have purpose.
There is something that God has pre-destined you to accomplish. God does not do anything without a plan and purpose. “I say my purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” ( Isaiah 46:10(b)) He has a plan and purpose for your life.
Every aspect of your personality is wired for your purpose. It is your responsibility to develop your strengthens, be aware of your weaknesses and proceed forward to discover your purpose. So you can leave a legacy of positive impact in the world.
How would you answer the following questions? What is it that makes you feel fulfilled at the end of the day? What would you do regardless if you were paid? What brings you complete contentment, the peace which cannot be measured in dollars or attained through material things?
When you uncover these answers, you have found your purpose! Uncovering your purpose in life, the thing you were put on this earth to accomplish, is an exciting journey in which you get to be an active participant. Yes, a journey! I know this is not a popular thought for most people, yet it is the truth. Sadly, many people never uncover their purpose and they miss out on the great blessings God has prepared for them.
As a Life Coach and Pastor, I often ask people this question; “What are a few, but significant steps, you can take towards discovering purpose in your everyday life?” For most, this question is difficult to answer. Many link their discovery to a divine messenger whispering it into their ear. Unfortunately, this is an unlikely reality.
Purpose, must be uncovered. Much like a treasure hunt, you receive clues along the way. Everyday, plays a role in preparing for your purpose.
Here are 9 key principles that will help you on your journey to uncovering your purpose.
- Seek. Your first key to uncovering your purpose is to seek God. The purpose for your life is found in Him. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart.”
(Jer 29:13) As long as you keep seeking you will find God and uncover your purpose. - Confidence. Resting in the assurance that God is leading you towards your purpose. “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” (Prv. 16:9) You will find the keys to your purpose buried in the routine of your everyday life.
- Attitude. Your demeanor, while pursuing your purpose is connected to how long you will be on the path.“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel. 16:7(b)) This stage in the process cannot be by-passed. You character development is necessary to sustain you in your purpose.
- Appreciation. Being thankful for the gift which each day represents. Embracing the key for each day will keep you on track. Gratitude clears the way for you to see clearly what lies before you.“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1Thessalonians.5:18) Every season you walk through is connecting you with your purpose.
- Patience. God is not in a hurry, some keys are meant to unlock other clues. Developing patience is the only way to pursue your purpose. “ Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:4) Learning to trust God’s timing is crucial.
- Endurance. You must decide to do whatever it takes to follow God’s directions. Going the distance and resisting the obstacles along your route is necessary.“ Submit yourselves, then to God, resist the devil and he will flee.”(James 4:7) This is the stage in the process where faith is strengthened.
- Ownership. You may be tempted to mimic someone else who is walking a path appearing similar to yours. Do not be deceived, this will delay YOUR journey. “Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.” (Prv. 4:25) Take responsibility for staying on your own course. Be your authentic self.
- Enjoyment. Enjoying where you are, while you are in root to where you are going. This is paramount in developing your strength to complete the race. Have fun with the process. “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10(b))
- Expectation. Believe you will find the keys to your purpose hidden in the midst of your everyday life. The treasure (your designed purpose), belongs to you! It has your name on it. No one else has access to it. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5) Just as God had a pre-designed plan for Jeremiah…He has set you apart for your divine purpose!
You serve a great God, who desires to do exceedingly abundantly more than you can dream or imagine. “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to His power that is at work within us.” (Ephesians 3:20)
Seek Him with confidence. Have a good attitude. Be grateful and patient as you endure the journey. Be yourself, be joyful, and live everyday with expectancy.
Uncovering your purpose in everyday life will enable you to serve God, love others and impact the world around you.

Everyday I think… Is the work I’m doing really what I’m suppose to be doing? But when I see the kids smile after reaching a milestone or hearing a former parent say I really made an impact on their child,.. I know I am where I am meant to be… I just ask God everyday to give me the wisdom and strength to continue and then I know I can…thank you for helping me see this.
