Uncovering purpose in our everyday life is like being on a travel adventure with God. As I travel through Europe, meet new people, and experience new cultures, I find myself learning more and more about God’s unending ability to touch my heart in unexpected ways. With every new sight I encounter I experience God’s presence in a unique and marvelous fashion. To uncover purpose in everyday life one must learn to Stop long enough to see, to Look beyond the obvious, and Listen for the hidden messages throughout the day. Stop…Look…Listen!
- Training yourself to see and hear God wherever you are and in whatever you may be doing, is necessary to uncovering purpose in your everyday life.
As I explore the countryside, the beauty of the vast land before me has most certainly captured my attention in a special way. I can clearly see God, in all His creativity, painting the countryside with His special touch.
- During your daily routine, are you taking time to notice God’s fingerprints surrounding you?
Much of the terrain throughout the cities I visited is used for farming in one way or another. Olive tree plantations, apple orchards and vineyards are in abundance, to name a few. Much of the landscape is exquisitely manicured. I can only image the amount of hard work and dedication it takes to keep the land in prestigious condition. Among the acres of flowing green pastures, stands a house, which someone calls home. My thoughts reflect upon a loving God, creating you and me, uniquely and beautifully, and setting us among the vast landscape to be marveled at. Yes, you are irreplaceable. You are one of a kind. You stand out in the vastness of the universe. You are fearfully and wonderfully created (Psalms 139:14).
- Are you allowing God to manicure the landscape of your life?
As my travels take me North towards Switzerland and Austria, I continue to be mesmerized by the beauty of the expanse unfolding before me. Vineyards continue to spread as far as the eye can see as they line the back country roads of Tuscany. Driving through the winding mountain roads, I marvel at these vineyards…yet to produce their crops. Suddenly, I am reminded of God’s principle of seedtime and harvest (Matthew 13:24). The landowners, having worked long, hard hours preparing the soil and planting the seeds, are now patiently waiting for the abundant harvest.
- Are you allowing God, to prepare the soil of your heart, plant the seed of His word, and nurture it with His love? God is expectant of a great harvest in your life!
As I pass over the Italian border, my eyes behold the magnificent Swiss Alps, standing tall in all their glory! Never before have I encountered such a powerful sight. The height and depth of the mountain ranges spread over the land like a blanket. Magnifying their brilliance is the ray of sunlight shining along the various peaks. Simply stunning! I can vividly see God’s power on display. The mere size of the Alps, which now seem close enough to touch, leaves me speechless, I stand amazed!
- God’s power, through the Holy Spirit, is available to you. Are you allowing God’s power to work in you and through you ( Zechariah 4:6)?
The expanse of the Alps extends beyond what I can see, and once again, I find myself reflecting upon the awesomeness of God’s power. “Nothing is impossible with God” ( Matthew 19:26). Honestly, standing alongside these enormous mountains I ‘feel so small’ in comparison (James 4:14b). Why do I (we) spend a moment worrying about tomorrow (Matthew 6:8)?
- Will you choose to seize today and trust God with your tomorrows?
As I pass through the border of Austria, I sense yet another side of God’s character on display. The gentle, sweet, comforting side. The quaint town is vibrant with people, a peaceful sound echoes through the air as the church bells ring in the distance. Taking a refreshing break from driving, I set out for a walk along the lake which surrounds the town. I am welcomed by a magnificent sunset covering the sky with colors. Locals are embracing the moment, sitting along the waterfront with picnics at hand. Small bonfires burn along the waterside, smiles, laughter, and conversation fill the air. Spiritually, I liken it to God calling us close to Himself at the end of a long day. I can hear Him say… give me your burdens, let me have the things which are trying to weigh you down, sit and embrace my peace (Philippians 4:6).
- Are you carrying burdens you were never meant to carry? Are you willing to give those to God and receive the peace He is offering you?
God loves you! Just as he has a plan and purpose for the things of nature, he also has a plan and purpose for your life. Uncovering purpose in your everyday life, is truly like being on a travel adventure with God each day. Embrace the opportunity for new discoveries. Stop…Look…Listen!
- May you never fail to see God in your surroundings, may you always be sensitive to His ever still small voice. His voice which transcends all time and space is speaking to you constantly.
You are alive for such a time as this! Make the most of your travels with God daily, and be open to receive the hidden blessings which God has prepared in advance for you.
